This is an interesting development in the ongoing evolution of LED lighting. These paper-thin LEDs could end up in credit cards by the end of next year.

These types of LEDs will begin to show up more and more with some very novel uses – things we never thought of, too, I am betting. the appeal for laptop screens and cell phones is strong, too.

What an exciting technology.

Verizon is upgrading their core offerings to the Traverse City area, which could be of some real benefit. This brings EV-DO service to the Traverse City area, which will likely make for the fastest mobile Internet speeds in the area. Aside from the specs, the real world implication is for near-broadband mobile phone Internet access. Pretty neat for the area.

Verizon’s coverage up here still isn’t the best, but this is definitely a good start.

In a move that could have have quite an impact on us here in northern Michigan, AT&T is purchasing Dobson Communications. The significance is that Dobson Communications is the parent company of Cellular One. Of course, Cellular One is one of the main mobile phone players throughout northern Michigan.

These mergers/acquisitions can take some time to play out, so exactly how quickly any of this will have an impact on Cellular One customers and AT&T product availability, and the iPhone in particular, remains to be seen. But it will absolutely have an impact eventually.

Stay tuned…as more info becomes available, we’ll pass it on.
