The Terrapin Networks Story

The Terrapin Networks Story

So just how does a little outfit that was started in a home office live long enough -- nearly 20 years now -- to become a major provider of IT Department services in wonderful Northern Michigan? Our story follows.

Terrapin Networks began in the summer of 1990 as Terrapin Computer Company. Founder Tim Gillen started selling and servicing computers out of a small home office from the Gillen home on West Front Street in Traverse City, Michigan.

The business grew steadily and moved from the home office to a series of ever-larger offices until moving to a storefront on East 8th Street in Traverse City. Then known as Terrapin Computers, the company was finding its niche as a business and networks IT services provider. In early 2000 Terrapin Computers became Terrapin Network Services to more accurately reflect the focus the company had taken with business and organizational networks. Terrapin had become an established provider of outsource IT services in Northern Michigan.

In the autumn of 2004 Terrapin moved down the street to some newer, larger digs and became simply Terrapin Networks. We are located across from the cemetery and next to the fire station on East 8th Street. Yes, there is probably a story there, but we will leave that for a different time!
